چکیده

This paper presents the implementation of eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) in general-purpose commercial software package COMSOL Multiphysics for multi-field thermo-hydro-mechanical problems discontinuous porous media. To this end, an exclusive enrichment strategy is proposed compliance with modeling structure. modules and physics interfaces are adopted to take account relevant physical processes involved coupling analysis, namely: mechanical deformation, fluid flow media heat transfer. Essential changes made internal variables ensure consistency evaluation enriched solution fields. The model preprocessing, level-set updates, postprocessing procedures performed adopting a coherent utilization COMSOL’s built-in features along LiveLink MATLAB functions. process, remedies treatment zones, XFEM framework setup, multiphysics coupling, numerical integration described detail. capabilities performance approach investigated by examining several simulations involving single/multiple discontinuities 2D/3D rock settings.

A Hybridized Crouziex-Raviart Nonconforming Finite Element and Discontinuous Galerkin Method for a Two-Phase Flow in the Porous Media

In this study, we present a numerical solution for the two-phase incompressible flow in the porous media under isothermal condition using a hybrid of the linear lower-order nonconforming finite element and the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. This hybridization is developed for the first time in the two-phase modeling and considered as the main novelty of this research. The p...

Transient Fluid Flow Modeling in Fractured Aquifer of Sechahoon Iron Mine Using Finite Element Method

Considering the fact that a large volume of iron reserve in the Sechahoon Iron Mine in Yazd Province has located under the water table, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive study on water flow within the pit and its surroundings. The conceptual model of the aquifer was created using surface and underground geological information compared with water table data of the area of interest. In t...

Stability Analysis of Salt Cavern Gas Storage Using 2D Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Finite-Element Software

Ensuring the stability and integrity of underground gas storage salt caverns is a very complicated subject due to the non-linear and time-dependent behavior of rock salts under complicated thermal and mechanical loading conditions. For this reason, pressure and temperature fluctuations in the caverns and their surrounding strata must be integrated into the analysis and the numerical tools that ...

The Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM) in thermo-mechanical problems

The aim of this work is to develop a numerical framework for accurately and robustly simulating the different conditions exhibited by thermo-mechanical problems. In particular the work will focus on the analysis of problems involving large strains, rotations, multiple contacts, large boundary surface changes and thermal effects. The framework of the numerical scheme is based on the Particle Fin...
